As one of the beneficiaries of our annual charity raffle, we were delighted to visit Our Dementia Choir and experience first-hand the incredible work they do.
The choir meets every two weeks at the City Ground in Nottingham for rehearsals and regularly travels around the country to perform at a variety of events. Founded by Vicky McClure, the charity believes in the remarkable power of music to bring happiness, comfort, and connection to people affected by dementia.
More than just a choir, it provides a safe and supportive community where members can come together, build friendships, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of music. Through performances ranging from intimate local gatherings to large-scale events, the charity continues to raise awareness of dementia while demonstrating the positive impact music can have on those living with the condition, as well as their families, friends, and carers.
During our visit, we had the privilege of listening to the choir rehearse before joining members for lunch and games afterwards. While the performances were truly wonderful, what stood out most was the incredible sense of camaraderie within the group. The warmth, friendship, and genuine care members showed for one another was inspiring to see, and it was clear how much they valued the opportunity to spend time together.
A huge thank you to everyone at Our Dementia Choir for making us feel so welcome. We left with a greater appreciation of the difference you make and the joy you bring to so many lives. Keep being amazing! 🎵💙
