At Linney, we believe that literacy is a fundamental skill that can change lives, which is why we were so pleased to support Literacy Volunteers through our annual charity raffle.
Literacy Volunteers help in the community to provide a one-to-one reading scheme in local primary schools across Nottinghamshire, helping children develop confidence in reading and a lifelong love of books. Volunteers visit an allocated school for half a day each week during term time, spending time reading, talking, and playing games with children who need extra support. Their goal is not just to improve reading skills but to make reading a fun and enjoyable experience.
The dedicated volunteers go into schools, predominantly in economically disadvantaged areas, supporting 600 children each week. Their impact is truly invaluable, offering children the encouragement they need to gain confidence, build literacy skills, and develop a passion for storytelling.
We had the privilege of visiting a local school to see Literacy Volunteers in action and were inspired by the dedication of their volunteers. The time they give to these children is life-changing, and we’re proud that our donation will help them continue their mission.
Thank you, Literacy Volunteers, for the incredible work you do in our community! 📖✨
