As part of our annual charity raffle, we were pleased to support Friends of Berry Hill Park, a volunteer-led organisation committed to protecting and enhancing one of Mansfield’s most cherished natural spaces.
Berry Hill Park is a much-loved area of natural beauty that provides local people with a place to relax, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors. The Friends of Berry Hill Park work tirelessly to ensure the park remains a welcoming and accessible space for the whole community while preserving its natural environment for future generations.
One of the group's most impressive achievements has been the development of a community orchard, which has grown significantly thanks to the dedication of volunteers and local fundraising efforts. Since receiving the original fruit tree donation, the group has added fencing, hedging, and gates to create a secure environment that can also be used as an outdoor classroom for local schools and community groups.
They have also enhanced the area with picnic tables, benches, and an apiary, creating a valuable space where people can learn about nature, biodiversity, and the environment while enjoying the park's peaceful surroundings.
The group's next ambition is to install a wooden gazebo, which would provide a sheltered space for educational activities, community gatherings, and visitors enjoying the orchard throughout the year.
