Empowering Unanima Theatre: Amplifying Disabled & Autistic Voices

This year, we were honoured to support Unanima Theatre Company as one of the beneficiaries of our annual charity raffle. Unanima is a Mansfield-based arts organisation that is revolutionising the way learning-disabled and autistic artists are represented in the arts.

Founded in 2008, Unanima has developed a radical co-creative theatre model where disabled artists aren’t just included—they lead the creative process and decision-making. This approach has allowed the company to create meaningful, high-quality work while also challenging societal misconceptions about disability and the arts.

Building on their success in theatre, Unanima has expanded their impact through:

🎤 Comedy & Music – Providing platforms for learning-disabled performers
📝 Writing & Campaigning – Advocating for better representation in the arts
🏥 Collaborations with the NHS – Using creative projects to support health & wellbeing
🎓 University Training Days – Educating future professionals on inclusion & accessibility

As part of our visit, we had the privilege of attending one of Unanima’s weekly training days, watching their incredibly talented cast bring stories to life on stage. The passion, dedication, and artistic brilliance on display were truly inspiring.

We are proud to help fund their groundbreaking work, ensuring that learning-disabled and autistic voices are heard, celebrated, and championed. A huge thank you to Unanima Theatre Company for leading the way in creating a more inclusive arts industry. 🎭💜
